Just use the bottom end from the 98, and keep all your other parts, by far the easiest option.

would the engine be able to cope with 400bhp if i do this and also will i need to time it all up again etc cause me and my brother are going to be tackling it and he thinks the less we have to do to the engine the better plus my current engine has a few problems thats why i was going for a complete replacement
cheers

No, the std rods will let go if you get much over 350bhp, if not before. STI piston will struggle at that power also. You really need to go forged or get a new age STI bottom end.

Interesting. So you're saying the STi 3/4 forged pistons shouldn't really be run when at over c.350+

Cheers.

I was aware that they're not great as forged items go, but was 'hoping' they'd handle 400.
