i bought a 2003 52 plate wrx sti uk spec but the bottom end was rattling, i removed the engine and had a look inside the sump and it looks like its missing a big end shell ! anyway, im l,ooking for someone to rebuild it, i had arranged to take the engine to api but now having spoken to a friend who has been tuning scoobys for years he told me not to go near them with a barge pole !
what do i do now ?
i have a budget of 2500 maybe stretching to 3k if really need be !
can anyone advise on a good builder or reputation of api ?
thanks
justin
or does anyone know of a replacement engine for sale ?

api have one of the best reps around so who ever your friend is then i wonder if he has some hidden agenda.

i use scoobyclinic for all my work, but if for some reason they couldn't fit me in then it would be api i would go to no questions asked

no he has no agenda, he said he has seen api's garage and its a kak hole ?
he has had several big power engines and swears api are not to go to ! obviously if he is wrong there should be a load of replies on here to show it !
i await the results

what does it matter what their garage is like?
My local RX specialist is in a large chicken shed and have one of the fastest RX7s in Europe.
now if there is a query about quality of work then fair enough but i don't think you can judge on looks alone.

Perhaps you should speak to david at Api to actual discuss what you can afford and what you need

Justin, I am happy to defend our position with anyone. We are certainly not a " kak hole " and our quality is as good as any of the other top 4 tuners of Subaru in the country.

Why don't you come up here and look for yourself? No obligation.

There are very few people out there who have had less than perfect service here and we take a pride in quoting accurately and sticking to it.

As for " talking the talk" well I spend my days on the phone, all day every day and we are booked solid for engine work for four weeks right now. I must be doing something right.

Good Luck, no matter what - David APi

No more scoobs for me, bought a 530D now, to transport the family around in, I have a ZX6R for mad moments though.

I may be tempted again one day, but it would have to be a special one.

Sorry this has got to be a wind up or to try and cause trouble for APi. You just need to do a search to find out APi is one of the best engine rebuilders in the country.

As above do a search on API , they are one of the best and honest builders out there that won't rip you off , beleive me you don't need to do a poll on whether API know what to do with subaru's , i am not saying they are the only good ones as there are others too but you can't say " don't go near them with a barge pole "

API rebuilt my STI 18 months ago still going strong. Dave was always in contact with me if required and gave his views and advice on what was the best way forward once it was stripped.

They offer a warranty on the work carried out anyway.

There are a few to choose from who will carry out the work for you, and API are up there with the best.

Every garage will have a 'problem' car or customer somewhere down the line if they work on as many as API do. Nathan and the boys can build engines in there sleep.

Your money, spend it where YOU feel happy.
