Default newage radiator cooling panel?

Hi does anyone know if these things actually do anything? I have just mocked up a template to make one at work and all i can see is that it stops air going up between the plastic front grill trim and the frame that the rad sits on. Looks like maybe 10-15mm wide gap at the most. Are they needed on other models due to a bigger gap? I dont even have a gap between the rad and the rear of the front frame as there are strips of foam there so i can only imagine its just a bit of bling and isnt going to do squat on my car.

I noticed a few degrees difference on cruise with my 2.5 which runs fairly warm.

Obviously only works when on the move, it all helps as they say, but at a price. 71degree opening thermostat is a better mod and cheaper !

They do look nice and people spend a lot more than that on things that have no positive benefit such as dump valves.
