Default Mapping question

I have a 53 wrx and has been mapped by Andy Forrest and is running 356 BHP.
The question is if i put a 6 speed box in it will i have to get it mapped again because of the extra gear.

nope dont think so mate. mapping is down to how the fuelling an timing etc works. the gears is a different part of the car

I think you do if you have a Apexi avcr boost controller, because it has in gear boost settings. So you can set different boost for different gears.

You will need to see the mapper again, as the in gear boost compensation settings will be wrong.

AFAIK the standard ECU doesn't have any "in gear" anything. That said, I'd get it checked by someone who can monitor things (det, fuelling) just to be sure

the only possible issue really is if 6th gear is longer geared than the 5th gear on the previous box.. as the load will be increased, so it would need checking for both det and overboost.. this is assuming there is no gear compensation set up on the car which on the standard ecu on your car there isn't so assume there is no boost controller fitted etc

Hey Simon,

I thought the new age Denso ECU was capable of supporting in gear boost compensation without the need for AVCR?

AFAIK the AVCR can only see 5 gears so on my AVCR 1st gear is also second gear LOL

Chris, don't forget all the extra weight of the 6 speed. May blunt your poke They do pack a few extra kgs into the chassis.

I was under the impression you would have to change the ECU as the ECU's in the blobs and bugs is Gear aware.... I may be wrong LOL

depends on the rom file..

it isn't wonderful but is there in some of them.

however if the car is still on the original turbo it is unlikely to have needed altering much and there would only be an issue if 6th gear was longer than the 5th it was mapped on or 6th a lot lower as boost would then needed upping etc..
