coolant help please?

Default coolant help please?

can any1 help please. now i know the coolant tank is in the front right hand side of engine bay, but i also have a small tank on right hand side of air filter with some small pipes comin from it, this is now half full. is this part of the coolant system and if so, can i top it up with water or with coolant. or is this something else. oh, this is on an 02 scooby witch has been changed to a 2.5ltr

The small tank adjacent to the air filter is the header tank and this should be full of coolant. The small, semi-clear, tank alongside the radiator is the overflow and this should be filled to somewhere between the marks on the side

cheers, thanx loads mate, now 1 more ques. can i use any coolant or a certain one?

The workshop manual is really helpful and specifies SUBARU coolant, I use silkolene ready diluted for ease, but as long as it has a rust inhibitors and is suitable for alloy engines you should be fine. I can't recommend a specific one but just don't by Tesco value stuff
