Default Cheapest ways to get a few more bhp

Hey chaps.

I have a 1995 turbo import wagon with a lazyboy automatic gear box. It's all completly standard, only covered 63k and I'm looking to enter the big bad world of engine mods. What is the easiest way of gaining a few bhp, and also an exhaust system that sounds nice, and not like the car wants to eat you alive!!??!

Cheers, O

full decat exhaust and a remap will see a big improvement, you would be looking around £800 - £1000 to do this ide say,so i dont know how cheap you mean.

the STi Genome is a nice sounding backbox, far from over the top but sounds quallity

How reliable are remaps? If I go ahead and get one done, its not going to start a cascade of component failures and many garage trips over the coming months is it??

custom made 3" full decat and induction kit (although hi flow panel filter will give you good results) on my turbo 2000 went from 218bhp upto 250bhp, cost me £500ish. Then another £500 for ecutec remap, now running 275bhp with 390Nm torque.

I've had no probs (touch wood) with my remap. Really depends on how looked after your car was/is. Unfortunately there is no hard and fast rule! Some can take it others cant!

remaps are reliable, just makesure you use a recomended mapper to do it. they will set up you car to its safest potencial. then after that its upto you to look after your car...drive it like a loon all the time and it will more than likely go bang,

there tends to be certain mappers that are used by many on here ie jollygreenmonster, bob rawle, andy forrest etc all very good at there work

looks cool. sounds grunty. i spied a youtube clip of a cheaper racebox muffler, and i think i prefer its bassier less harsh tone. plus its only goin on a wrx auto, not a full on sti.

its all personal i suppose

i thought the origional bonnets were made from aluminum which is light.. other than that get a carbon fibre one, not cheap but very light.

if you have aircon then remove that, it weighs a tonne

Wagons got very few 'lightweight' bits. My STi 95 wagon needed an ally bonnet in place on the steel one. You will know if its ally or not believe me, you could bench press the steel one

Jap Performance Parts : TuningParts for Sale

There're quite a few on the first page of the aboive link - 3 more pages as well.

That company does like its prices though. £275 for a used back box! That's a top-end price for most NEW back boxes!!!

just a quick question, got a 2004 wrx with prodrive bits, still has 2 or 3 cats through exhaust. thinking of getting straight through pipe from powerflow either to prodrive back box or a new one. and sticking a viper induction kit on running through the fog light cover.

anyone think prodrive back box or different and how much bhp would be added with full de cat and viper. cheers
