No real easy way other than remove and inspect. You could try pulling off a high up, small bore water pipe, briefly start the engine and see if water is being pushed out.

What makes you think its not working?

 

it over heats quite quick and it squeel a few times when first started, i thought it was a belt not the pump.
i took off 1 of the heater pipes and noticed when the engine is running the water wasnt being forced out, it just runs out, so im guessing its gone, anyone agree?
