Default HEAD GASKET ADVICE

need some advice on this guys had my headgasket done did 180 miles and the big ends let me down.

so going back to the garage to have the bottom end fixed they have advised me that they can reuse the head gaskets that i just had fitted

they are 1.3mm cosmatic ones

can someone shed some light on this and let me know if what they are tellin me is true.

they have also said they will warrent it all for 3000 miles even the head gaskets

I personally try not to re-use them..

They are MLS Multi Layered Steel... they can be re-used..
I did have a customer who wanted his re-used when he burned out a valve.. and their were no issues with it...

No way would I re-use a set after the engine has been run, especially for the price they are.

Yeah, the old HGs will have been squished between the heads/block and if you reuse them, then you may get tiny gaps, as the gaskets are already pre-flattened taking on a particular 'relief'... that now won't squish back down perfectly!

So boost can escape, no doubt causing HG failure again, somewhere along the line...

when the head gasket goes the bottom end should always be checked as the coolant can mess up the bearings if it mixes with the oil i wouldnt use the gaskets again otherwise you could be looking at more garage time.
