Default Idle "Blipping" on tickover and high idle ?

Hi All - Happy Bank Holiday weekend I've had an idle problem with my 02 WRX JDM for a few weeks now, initially started after the car was unused for about 10 days - started car, choke seemed to run faster than normal - after the temp was at normal the car started "blipping" revs between 1-1.4k a regular blip, as if someone was in the car gently revving it !!

Suspected the Maf which I quickly unplugged, the car kept going. "New maf" sourced, fitted and car seemed fine. The car has again been unused for about 10 days and after starting has develoed it's "blip" again, unplugged the "new" Maf - car died, which I think it should do, so Maf fine.

The car, after a short run last night now wants to idle at just over 2k, it creeps forwards at lights etc, as if wanting to go by itself (like herbie). Any ideas , should I have reset anything, ECU wise after the new Maf was put in - don't know how to do this on a Newage, as I read it had to be reset via a computer link ?????

Thanks..Si.

Clean your idle air control valve out with carb cleaner,
failing that you may have a air leak,
Yes ecu can only be laptop reset or dealers.

Thanks for that is an ICV something that fails or just loses quality of operation / I can see there is multi plug attached to it, so wondering if they fail electrically or physically ? also Do I need a new gasket for it, once taken apart - I believe (from reading on here) that the gasket expands when hot but if I did the job with everything cold, would that mean, no need to change the gasket

One other thing I recently fitted a Boost Gauge(stepper type) would that cause the idle prob (Gauge seems fine though).

Simon I am not sure but I think rsedwards on the Welsh forum might be able to reset/diagnose the problem as I think (not 100% sure) he has a laptop with the diagnostics system.

Drop him a PM and mention me.
