As long as the thrust position is correct they will do the job, STI rods and crank are the same as any ej20, it's just some have forged pistons fitted.

one final question, is the sti crank the same as a wrx? or is there a limit to the recommended power level of the wrx?

Yup, the cranks are the same between uk, wrx & sti versions, but as has been said, you need to make sure that the crank you are using has the same type of thrust set up (ie centre or rear thrust bearing) as yours.

Being a ver III will mean that you should have a centre thrust unit fitted, so a crank from ANY uk or import impreza turbo from ver I to ver IV (1993-1998) will be suitable.

Oops, thanks Zen, I stand corrected.

Subaru changed to rear thrust in the 3rd month of 1998 (engine no: 2213362 on) which was 6 months into production of the 98my cars, so to be sure of a cntr thrust unit you treat 1997my (ver III) as the cut off point.
