Default Sti version 5 engine?

Hi all,

I am looking for a replacement engine for my Sti version 5 type r as I have the dreaded big end knock

I have been told that I can only replace the engine in mine with either a version 5 or a version 6 lump. Is this the case or would a version 4 be suitable?

Thanks

Version 4 engine is no use to you at all as it's a phase 1.5 engine and thus you'll need to change the inlet manifold (with all the b*ll*cksing around with throttle bodies, idle control, injectors, loom and stuff that goes with it).

If all you're going to change is the short engine, then you should be fine with any EJ207 - so that puts newage shorts on your radar (although the newage heads aren't). If it's an entire replacement, or a long engine you're after, then STi5/6, yes.

Thanks for the reply.

Is a P1 engine the same as a version 5 sti engine? If so can this be used as a direct replacement?

Thanks

Just remember your complete replacement may only last 6 to 12 months and you may get the dreaded knock again.

I would rather rebuild the existing.
