Post whats the difference jdm & uk spec engines

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace the cambelt, tensioner, idlers & water pump and subaru have told me that the engine needs parts specifically from japan. I have a JDM V4 WRX TypeR V-Limited 2door.
I believed that certain genuine parts would have been the same across the engine range.

Engine gurus, is there a difference between the parts listed above on JDM & UK engines!

Many thanks.

Dont think the Main Dealer wants your business tbh - no difference in the parts you are looking for - Subaru did change the tensoner on the MY97~98 to the single bolt type with built in idler but if you remove the LH (battery side) outer timing belt cover, you will be able to see (with a torch) what type of tensioner you have lurking behind the centre cover.
Both JDM and UK cars have a Modine oil cooler so the water pump will be the same and have the outlet stub for the modine.

Early 2 bolt tensioner

Later single bolt tensioner

TBH dealers chatting rubbish take it to some other reputable person, who is willing to do the work.

If you get stuck try these people Import Car Parts - Japanese car parts for Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mitsubishi and more they seem pretty reasonable with their prices ,it's where i shall probably be getting mine from for my type r!

that lot have a few items on ebay one of the rare good sellers got my early tensioner from them needed it next day as car was in garage and they did exactly that, remember if your car has the early tensioner it dont come with the kit and its 95 quid on top of timing belt kit cost me £245 all in belt alone was 50.

While your in there its a good idea to replace the front crankshaft oil seal and locktight the screws in place on the inside face of the oilpump .

Thumbs up

Thanks for the advice, I will look at the tensioner this weekend.
I had a rebuild 8000 miles ago JE pistons, Eagle rods, STI 9 crank, RC updated oil pump etc, I didnt replace the above items. I wanted to play it safe and replace the other items and start track days, timed events etc.

Engine 1st, alloy radiator, FMIC, larger injectors and Andy F to map it again.

Thanks again I'll post this weekend.
