Default cootent temp sensor HELP

right checked the ecu codes today after having the engine check light flash at me 2day:-( found it was the coolent temp sensor. i have just had the car rebuilt after overheating and blowing it up (cracked block) the new engine is runnin fine and the temp guage in car is as normal just under 1/2. my first thort would be change the sensor as i probably melted it when it blew up. side affects are it takes longer than normal to start when cold. when warm this is ok.
so im going to get the sensor changed- but if its not the sensor what am i looking at? rad?? coolent is full and free from airlocks thanks

I would expect it to be sensor as the ecu is not recieving the correct temp signal therefore doesn't know if the engine is hot or cold giving you a hard time starting the car.
Dodgy idle from cold and fans coming on at odd times or continuously are another symptom.
Just change the sensor reset the ecu and see how it goes
