Default APEXi Power FC For EJ20K Help Needed!!

Hey Guys!
Please excuse me if this issue has already been discussed but this is my first post on the site and I really just need to get some quick help.

So I've decided to go with the APEXi Power FC unit in my 98 Version 4 STi (running an EJ20K). I like it because of its 92 octane base maps (because the fuel here is crap) and all the research I've done have only had very good things to say about it. Clearly there seem to be better mor functional systems out there like the Hydra Nemesis, ViPEC or Autronic, but I'm on a budget and right now the Power FC fits right into that.

Problem however... The guy that is sourcing my Power FC found one that had a serial number starting with GC8D. However after doing some research I noticed that the GC8D does corresponds to the 414-F002 Power FC for the EJ20K and the ones staring with serial code GC8DL correspond to the 414-F005. It seems as if the 414-F002 MAY be the Power FC Pro which was discontinued around 2002 and the 414-F005 might be the one that came after it which is however NOT a Pro model.

Some people do recommend that the 414-F005 IS the one to get but I honestly have no idea why. I heard it could be something with the Knock monitoring being better and the ability to adjust base fuel maps, not very sure.

Anybody knows the real deal with these, and what may be the differences between them and advantages or disadvantages of either? If my info was incorrect please feel free correct it as I am just trying to learn about these things. Any help at all (especially an explanation as to what is what) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

Firstly the base maps are definitely not 92octane.. they are 100octane and pretty agressive.

I thought we bottomed this out on the other thread.. you need the GC8D and are unlikely to get the pro version. But they are both GC8D and will work.

Hey Simon,
Sorry about that, I didn't realize my buddy Gus had already posted this issue up in that other thread. But yeah, after e-mailing Greenline Motorsports they said that the GC8D is the discontinued older version which is not pro and the GC8DL is the new model. Both will work on the EJ20K from V3/V4 STi so I guess now it's just up to me finding the newer model. Which would be GC8DL or 414-F005, they're both the same thing it seems.

Hopefully this thread can help somebody in the future who was just as confused as I am.

Thanks again fro all your help Simon! Had I been living in England I may have been looking to you for mapping too...
