Default Standard Clutch

What power are people running on a standard OE Clutch before it slips?

I'm running at 350 at the moment, and haven't had a problem. But I'm going for more soon and hope it will last with more power......?

I'm on 347/343 with the standard clutch (05 WRX not STi) did a launch last night and the wheels were spinning all the way in first gear with no slip or smell!

Not sure but the STi clutch may be different to the stock WRX one, worth checking out

Iain! Yes, the STi that have 6-gear boxes have bigger diameter clutches.

cheers Adam, so the question I was trying to ask (badly .... lol) was whether the stock STi clutch is designed to take a bit more power than the stock WRX clutch

Sure! But you will need the clutch from a 5-speed STi, not a newage 6gear one.

Will my OE last at 400 then for a while? Maybe 420bhp?

Thanks

Is that 350bhp or 350lbs torque? I believe it's the torque figure you may want to look into.

Hi Chris, After fitting a bigger turbo, before it was even mapped, my std clutch started slipping, was running around 340 bhp with no symptoms for nearly two years.

Now it's mapped I fear it would have shredded it in seconds, no launches, or crazy drive it like you stole stuff either.

HTH

dunx

P.S. I regarded it as an essential up-grade, not an option.

i ran mine at 383bhp for over a year on the standered clutch, did countless full bore launches on the strip and it never slipped once.only changed it as i was having a lot more mods done to the car so i thought it was wise while it was in to have i changed.

Mine is sat in the garage still, it wasn't worn out.... just couldn't hold the torque ! And I would have said it had led an easy life with little abuse.

P.S. You don't want to find yours giving up on a mountain pass in Italy do you ?

hehe, no that would be bad!

Mine is at 350 now, and hasn't once smelt or slipped or anything.

May have to think about getting it done before i do go in July

Is Bob the man to speak to?

Cheers

Clutches are rated in torque not bhp think these are good for about 450lbs, but it does depend on how you use it

My standard clutch should be ok for 450lbs you mean Tony? As I won't be hitting that when I get the remap.

What are all the types of clutches? There seems to be Single, Twin/Double and Organic. Think IF I do change I'd go for an Exedy. Which would suit me best out of the options?

Thanks a lot
