you really need a code as if your alarm fob battrey runs out you cant de activate imobiliser and start car..plus pressing certain bottons on it with ignition on alows diffrent functions i,e...battery voltage cheak full close alarm (like wen you go on holiday no fob will open car you then need code) and have it so wen you turn ignition on it will lock the car so cant get opened at the lights by scum....plus people likeme change the code to my choice but forget to tell new owners so there is ways round it.sure if you take documents v5 to subaru you can have it re programed to a code of your choice plus better to get another key cut while your there, at cost

As long as you have a working key-fob, you can actually re-set the code to what you like without having to pay Subaru for the priveledge - you just have to entere a certain combination of codes ont he keypad.

Have a quick search of the forums - it is there somewhere as I have done it before.

My dealer didn't charge me to change it while it was in for a service.

I wouldn't know how to change it as well actually, as I don't know my code......

Searched, but the search isn't the best.

As previously mentioned, you can only change it yourself if you know the existing code. There is a sequence of numbers / keys which your dealer will enter to change it

You CAN change the code without knowing the current code, as long as you have a working fob:

Cheers for that!

Quote from the link about resetting the PIN
Are you aware that you can re-set your PIN?
Provided you have a working Radio Key and can disarm the system, carry out the following:
- Arm and then Disarm the system using a working Radio Key.
- Within 30 seconds of disarming, type into the keypad- *17856*92*wxyz*wxyz# (where wxyz is your new PIN code)
- Arm the system with the Radio Key
- You should now be able to disarm the system using the new PIN code

For anyone else reading this post, the sequences described inthis post will only work on the M-series range and Subaru systems. Earlier Sigma ranges such as the SG range can only be programmed with a dealer programmer and the latest S-series range requires the use of different numbers.
