Servo problem by the sounds of it, Check the pipe from the vacum Servo for any splits or if it has rubbed through anywhere.

you could be right there...

to check servo...
with engine off, pump brake pedal quite a few times.

whilst keeping pedal pressed down start the engine.

if servo is ok you should feel brake pedal move down, if not then your servo is more than likely the problem.

Is the problem with the hard pedal after a decent full throttle run?
It maybe the servo is not building up enough pressure after being on boost for a long period.
Or is it just the Pads are fading causing a hard pedal with no braking action?

the hard pedal seems so come and go as it pleases, just driving round town. the pads are fine replaced them about a month ago. all was fine until a few days ago

I'd be taking a close look at the servo pipe then mate it may have a leak at one of the rubber sections.
