Default engine knocks on subaru's

i own a 2001 wrx, and at 68000 miles it developed an engine knock, so i took an oil sample and found there was brass filings in the sample of oil taken, so decided to strip down the engine to see what has happened. i found that number 2 big end has given up. As i work in a main dealer garage i do all the servicing myself using genuine parts and changing the oil atleast every 6000-7000 miles well within the subaru servive intervals. i still cant found out why the bearing has failed?! All the other bearing are ok. So decided to purchased and 2003 sti engine complete from a subaru breakers. when i arrived i found that the oil has been drain (drained for shipping ). So finally put the engine in my 2001 car, messed around with fitting the 8 extra wires, ecu, immobilser control unit, and fitting the chip to my key, later to find after putting fresh oil in it and filter ( filling the filter with oil and disconnecting the crackshaft sensor and priming the oil system) that when started the it had a slight tapping noise. so once again on this second hand engine took an oil sample to find very fine brass particules. (not as bad as my 2001 wrx engine).

My question is, why are these bearing failing or am i unfortunate to having already have a faulty engine being sent out to me.

thanks matthew

Sounds like you have a faulty second engine from the breakers if there are particals in the oil and a tapping noise.
