engine timing
hi everyone can someone shed some light on this for me just purchased a engine for my car,it came from a my99 turbo 2000 identical to mine,i removed the engine running perfectly myself,i got all the paperwork with it for a rebuild and remap it had 28k miles ago and made 321hp,the car ran without issue and was smooth as you like,i pulled the belt covers off and timed it up ready to put a new belt and tensioner on and found that the timing was off.
looking from the front with the crank on its mark the inlet and exhaust cams on the right are on time, the inlet and exhaust to the left are a tooth late on timing and the belt is tought and not at all slack anywhere,is this some sort of mod i dont know of or was it timed wrong by mistake, cant understand how it ran bang on and made good power, ive since timed it right and put it in my car ready for a simtek fitting and it seems fine.
