Turbo Choice
I am in the process of "re-evaluating" the turbo on a MY99/00 V5 impreza and was wandering what everyones opinion was:
Current mods are:
Full stainless from turbo back incl decat
walbro 255 fuel pump
HKS induction kit
BOV
FMIC
I am planning a new turbo unit, manual boost controller (replacing the 2 port boost solenoid) and an ecutek remap.
I am debating whether to go for a TD05 or one of the VF turbos either the VF34 or 35. Can you give some advise as to what your opinions are? power deliver, spool up etc.
Is a 90 degree inlet turbo able to be converted to a front entry? Is a "kit" available etc.
Thanks

You can get a TD05 thats already been converted to front entry.
All 3 of the turbos you have mentioned are capable of upto 350bhp.
The VF35/34 are the newest out of the 3 and are very similar to each other. Both are good turbos that have good spool up, but are know to fail.
The TD05 16g is the older out of the 3, but is also cheaper and more reliable, but doesnt spool up quite as fast as the other 2.
The VF28 mentioned above is also a good turbo with good spool up, but wont go much past 320bhp and again are know to fail

so basically a front entry converted TD05 16/18g would be the best option in terms of reliability, price etc but will sacrifice some spool up...?
Im assuming that a 90 degree inlet TD05 can be converted? The 90 degree inlets seem to be fairly common but finding a front entry TD05 for anything other then silly money seems rare....
