Post Front end knock

bought my first scoobie two weeks ago it looked like someone had rolled it in a field a few times but was so cheap i couldn't refuse anyway got a knocking sound from front sometimes. mainly when i turn to the right, any ideas , could it be CV joints. Someone told me this was a common problem , not that he's ever had one. Also I have had to skim the brake discs as brakes were metal to metal can anybody confirm the min disc thickness is 22mm. thanks cant wait to hear as I would like to give her a good workout but need to sort noise. Its '93 1.8 GL 4WD Impreza wagon (think thats what they are known as)
