Default classics and rebuilds

currently looking at classics and seena few nice ones lightly modded, i.e. running 320bhp or thereabouts

all sti's .. but there mileage is 70,000 (uk miles not km!) or above..

original engine

would you risk it now? with them being old? or hold out for one thats had a rebuild..?

considering i wont have money for rebuild if i was to buy the car now lol

everythign seems documented.. such as service history and any work done.. etc.

whats your take on this?

whosee got the highest mileage classic on original engine?

as for how its been reated.. i dont know.. i can just run off the service history which seems fine with oil changes every 4k since imported along with timing belt etc.

most say they were imported around the 40k mark been in the country for a few years

If looking at a JDM car, I'd try to get one with only the one UK owner, and who has pretty much mapped it straight away after delivery into the UK, by a reputable mapper i.e. all of SN's usual suspects.

(Obviously all the normal things to look for on high performance turbo'd cars apply too).

JGM Simon ran a Classic up to a monster (pardon the pun) mileage - 193k miles IIRC! And a lot of the initial mileage was on the stock ECU!, IIARC.

I might be wrong, but I don't think getting them remapped straight away is a concern for the earlier models up to about 98/99 when japan had the higher octane fuel introduced?

Think I read one of JGMs post once and he had a wagon on its original engine and it done 180ish before it went bang, someone did ask how long it'd been in the country before it'd been mapped etc but forgot to have a follow up read to find out the reply.
