Divorced down pipe? what does it do?
Anybody heard of a divorced down pipe?
here is a link
eBay Motors: invidia Subaru WRX/STI 02-UP Down Pipe(Divorced) V3 (item 290292654281 end time Mar-30-09 05:36:52 PDT)
It looks like it separates the waste gate on the turbo from the exhaust gases.
It is meant to sound like an external waste gate not sure how it works to be honest.

Looks cheap and nasty to me, mostly pointless too !
Why would it make any real difference on a road car ? My APS has a divider, but only in the turbo elbow itself.

I dont wish to undermine you Dunx because you probably know more about scoobys than me but, the gains made from these are the fact that that they remove the turbo elbo thus removing the restriction therein.
there are two different flavors closed and open.
the closed reintergrates the wastgate back into the exhaust further down when the the exhaust straitens up and the other vents the wastgate to atmosphere.
the sound from these VTA is fantastic and the gains are pretty much the same in either type.
they arent very common ove here they are mostly used in the US but they shouldnt be disscounted. My advice would be to look on the US forums and find out what people think of them there before you shell out for one.
Remember that you will have to pay import duty on it so it wont be as cheap as it looks.
as far as quality goes it looks preety good, the welds look nice and the flange lookes well made. IMHO.

I don't know about knowledge....
VTA might sound good, but not a sensible idea for a road car, imho.
Quote,
With all of the exhaust systems we have tuned with on the dyno we have seen that it is generally harder to bring boost on as quickly with these types of systems as compared to the bell mouth type systems. Perhaps it helps the wastegate function too well.
But each to their own, I'd hate a "screamer" pipe, but I'm old and stoopid !

P.S. Track cars , o.k., but a lot of events are having issues with noise....

This is probably the easiest way to get the sound your after. but I i`m not sure its the cheapest way then again I may be wrong i'm not sure whats required for fitting an external waste gate.
