There is a spray on the market called Pro- Gas. Much better than WD40, Its a proper dismantling agent.

i have done 2 downpipes on bugeyes

first one took me 6 hours due to taking time and i mean real slow. i read many posts about turbo bolts snapping. Anyaway i did the first one with out any WD.

Second one i did it while the car was still hot, lol and i did use a lot of WD round the turbo bolts. The way to do it is to work the bolts off and not to rush it otherwise they snap/shear. But to be fair if they snap they snap.
Second one took me less than 4 hours on axle stands with a standard socket set. The main problem is the heat shields as there is lots of 10mm bolts to remove and this does take most of the time up.

Always a good idea to remove the intercooler but not a good job putting it back on and can be fiddlerly.

i did my last one 3 weeks ago with no problems, m8 did his last week and snapped 2 turbo bolts so please take your time.

please PM if you need more info

Plenty of WD40, a six sided 14mm socket and as many different sized extension bars as you can find.

i found taking the heat shield off was the major part everthing else was easy, untill i dropped my trusty 10mm socket :-). not sure were it is lol.

the gains are well worth it, i would say for a straight throw de-cat about 25 BHP and it sounds ace on turbo spool up.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago.
The heat shield can be a git to get off, depending on what sort you have on (gets stuck between the intercooler and the brake master cylinder). It will also need chopping if you intend to refit it with the new larger mouth down pipe.

I would lube the turbo bolts the night before like you said, it can only help.

As long as you can work under the car easily you will be fine.

If you need any pics mate just let me know.

Yeah thats alright right then. Will use this time to polish up the heat sheild. Lots of elbow grease gonna be needed i think.

Yeas it will be a bigger mout i think. got an angle grinder so a quick mod should be ok. Ok ill remove the intercooler. First time i put my IC back it was a git. Some lub later and it goes back really easy!

Thanks for the tips chaps.!

I put mine back on (just the top one) due to the position of the brake fluid reservoir (just above and left of the turbo), On a hard drive the heat from the turbo could really warm up the fluid, and even though im using dot 5.1 I didn't want to take any chances of poor brakes due to the fluid getting to hot.
Once it was chopped it only needed 3 bolts to hold it firmly in position, and for the extra 10 mins it took to fit I felt it was worth it for the sake of the brakes.
