No expert, but here goes, mine didn't need one...
JGM had one ready just in case, they basically allow better control of the boost under control of the ecu. They have to be mapped at the time of fitting, it's not a do now map later situation.

I'm also looking to get a re map by JGM. Not going mad with the mods only full De cat and high flow air filter.
Do you think I will need one ? Is it safer to have one installed anyway?
car is a 2006 STI.
