Default VF28

Would a VF28 be a good turbo for a WRX 2003. Already have ppp pack and decat uppipe and ppp downpipe. Presume would need sti pinks fuel pump and a remap, do they deliver the goods or would I be better holding off until a VF34/5 comes along at the right price.

Thanks

Get the VF34/35. Similar spool to the 28, but more bhp/lb ft potential, I think.

I had a VF28 on my classic and now have a VF30 on my WRX (very similar to the 34/35)

The 28 gave 320bhp and 30 gives 330bhp although these figs are indeed with different injectors (standard 440's Vs 550's)

Spool up is definately quicker on the VF28 though. Theres nothing to choose though when theyre both on boost.

IMHO I'd buy whatever one comes up/cheapest at the time.

thanks just wondered as am aiming to get about 310-320bhp from my car eventually just collecting the bits as I go along. Just noticed a VF28 for sale close to me at £150, only worry I have is that the turbo would be older than a used VF34 that may turn up.

Think I need to keep looking at whats around I am sure something will turn up thanks for advice, I notice you don't mention intercooler upgrade in your profile are you still on wrx one as that is what I was planning so as to avoid changing scoop and undertray as well. Was just going for turbo, injectors, fuel pump and a remap. Already have all ppp parts and up pipe and sportscat down. I was hoping to clear 300bhp and hopefully transform the car.

Yes I'm on the standard intercooler but planning on an Sti one and 20g in the near future for around 370bhp.

My car was standard until a few weeks ago and I did all the mods in one go. 215bhp to 330bhp. Its a huge increase over standard and totally transforms the car. Well worth it IMHO.

You'll be well over the 300bhp mark with any of the VF turbo's mentioned.

I would say vf28 is relatively small, but quick spooling turbo.
And cheap as chips as for turbo

vf34 would be probably good choice, but it's a bit hard to get a second hand one and still a bit expensive, especially new one.

You can get vf35 also quite cheap, but still around 100-150Ł more than vf28, and as long as you're not fighting for every single horsepower - vf28 may be good choice.
But of course also vf35/34 are a bit newer.

Whichever you choose for around 320HP - you'll be happy anyway I think.
both vf28 and vf35 should be quick with spool-up if all tuned correctly.

440cc injectors will be rather still good for this power.

I have a VF28 on my 2.5, very good turbo, shortly to be upgraded to an MD321T - fingers crossed.

PM me if you are interested in my 28

The VF28 is quite noisey ? Maybe its just mine? Couldnt get any play when I checked, maybe seemed slightly notchy when I spun it but it was hard to tell with my hand/finders squished awkwardly into the mouth of the turbo. So I looked at getting it overhauled, no-one seems to do that on these, there are no kits for it. So if you are buying 2nd hand it might be worth trying to find somewhere to refurbish it I would always consider it, nothing worse than taking a turbo off and fitting a 2nd hand one and it needed an overhaul, leaky seal, noisey etc, if you do find somewhere let me know
