Flywheel cracking?
Hi im a new user here, i just bought a new paddle clutch for my 94 sti and the garage that are going to fit it asked if i had a new flywheel also incase it needs replacing due to cracking, he said its very common is he talking sense? he also said its 5.5 hrs labour to do this job?
Alternatively if there is anyone around fife who would like to fit it for me please dont hesitate to offer easy money for the weekend.
cheers

Usually can have these re-surfaced for £30 i.e. machined. He probably meant worn or de-faced.....they don't crack the way he's making them out to be.
Paddle? Your car modded heavily? What spec if you don't mind?
5.5 Hours seems about right.

its an sti 101/200 some sort of special edition light panels and stuff like that, its around 380-400 hp and around 380 ft lbs torque, dont know whats its got done to it i bought it like the way it is along with the horrid afterburner lights it has fitted i will replace them!
OK - with that amount of power it becomes a bit of a grey area. Only when they take the clutch off will they find out whats what. My personal experience is not to cut any corners with the flywheel (if it's standard) always have it refaced and is always good as gold.
I would have thought whoever modded your motor would have put in a aftermarket flywheel though...but again you will only know when someone strips it apart.
I personally would just strike a deal with one of the major suppliers such as Lateral, API, Zen or RCM for a flywheel (they can supply standard or aftermarket) and explain that its only for emergency and if they could help a fellow scoobynet member on the return of it for a refund if not required.
Good Luck
