Question type r gearbox 1997

how much torque can the box take before causing problems? i know the third gear is the weak point,are new age gearboxes stronger??

I'm not sure of exact figures but I believe the late (8 bolt) boxes are ok up to about 380bhp, all depends on how much of an animal you are I suppose! The six speed is the answer to most power hungry people though.

thanks-that is what i thought,i will see how the 5 speed box goes for now but if it breaks will get 6 speed
