Hi, Ive PM'd you but I think most People on here would advise against a second hand unit, you really don't know what you are buying! And what ever you do don't buy an SMR engine

Default help

Hi im a complete newbie to the scooby world

I have the same problem, jus got given a scooby 1994 k plate import (yes free!) it has a suspected 3rd piston failure?(common i believe), im i best to replace the necessaries (crank, piston, rings etc) or to buy a complete replacement engine?

good i got it free but bad timing, jus spent a load puting a puma engine in my now daily driver fiesta.

save up an replace was the plan but if i can replace the effected parts then that'd be cheaper. i know cheapers not usually better but ..........

I was in the exact same quandry a few years back.

I had a massive engine failure and needed a complete new engine. I decided to go for a proven low mileage second hand unit. After 5k miles it did a bottom end.

I would say the only sure way is get a reputible engine builder to do it, or have a go yourself. I did the latter and have never looked back.

this isnt a 'massive' failure? it only started knocking few day ago and stopped driving straight away!i have a friend on hand thats willing to do any work required as i am more than a novice!

So replacement is a negative in your eyes?
