Mine had similar... Turned out to be the O2 sensor. Problem is that other things going wrong will cause an odd fuel/air mixture which need to be excluded before settling on the O2 sensor. In other words it needs to be on a monitor in a garage.

You can unplug the O2 sensor but it'll cause a CEL. If the car drives better, however, you can probably live with it for a little while.

One symptom mine had was it'd be fine after a battery off or reset but eventually learn to be crap again (matter of 10s of miles, no more).

99greenwagon, I have a 99 uk turbo also and thats exactly the same problem as what im having at the moment!!
Was going to post myself but you have beat me to it.
I have tried almost the same as you, even bought some new hoses including the intercooler pipe and also gone through the expense of a full big service by Subaru (around £450)
But the problem is just as bad!!!

It sucks when your cars not running right and believe me I've learn't my lesson when it comes to tracing faults. Leave it to someone who knows about the marque of car. An hour of a garages time fault finding is money better spent than chucking money at random parts untill by luck and luck only you MAY find the casue of the problem.

i know what u mean but if there is no faults and car has been 100% since ive owned it,then im thinking it can only be something minor,it couldnt have come at a worse time cause im skinto! hoping to just find something if u catch my drift before i have to pay out for labour to fault find!! would spark plugs affect idle?

Depends how badly perished they are. When it comes to hard to find faults it could be anything really. I'd put a virtual pint on the HT leads/spark plugs being the cause of the problem.
