Default Cambelt Question

If my cambelt goes on my car, is it true that it will not damage the valves as it is not a interference engine? compared to a normal 4pot engine say?

Cheers

All the DOHC EJ engines are interference engines the SOHC engines are non interference iirc and as Adam has so succinctly put it wave bye bye to your engine

I was told when i got mine changed after 5 years (about 32,000 miles) that they've been engineered to last 45,000 miles.

a wee tip ,get all the idlers and tensioner checked for wear ,these cause failure just as much as belts breaking

all new idlers and tensioner

and remember to tighten front pully or this can happen

see it a lot ,it can damage the crankshaft as well.
get it done by a garage or somebody thats doing them all the time m8 no second chances

Indeed my tensioner had to be replaced and i also got them to check the oil pump as there are screws which hold in a plate and they can become loose causing oil leakage.

I had one go on a mates car, he was pulling 70mph in 3rd gear, got away with zero damage, new belt fitted and away to go, amazing!

if its gone 180 degress then you may still be okay. Re time it up, and turn over by hand, you will know if something isnt right
