Just been looking at this kit from a previous post
HDI GC8 WRX GT-Spec racing intercooler kit UK on eBay, also, Subaru, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 14-Feb-09 05:36:43 GMT)
It seems like the bottom of the intercooler sticks out of the bottom of the bumper, surley this cant be safe?
do you think a p1 splitter would cover this up?

so any advice on what to go for? i would prefer not to go over 450 really.. i have heard some good things about this kit but im abit reluctant due to the bottom of the intercooler been open to the elements
inc. VAT, for less than that!
IIRC I think he's currently selling for £350 +VAT (I stand to be corrected though...) You will need a cone IK too though (£70+)...

Trending Topics
harvey will advise you of which cone filter and its max dimensions (because of limitation from location of turbo-to-FMIC hard pipe).
I think he advocates use of K&N items... but any decent make e.g Apexi, Blitz, HKS, Green will be fine, I'm sure...

not going to do any thing yet until ive got the money for a simtek
(MAP based instead). So you can simply junk the MAF - less restriction to airflow too - and just have the filter and it's adaptor into the turbo intake pipe. You should gain about 6 inches or so
.... of extra space, of course

explain the map based vs maf? i know maf's have a tendensy to fail, mine has just had a new map sensor.. does that run from the vacum from the inlet manifold thus controlling fuel?? just a stab in the dark lol... i wouldnt complain about a extra 6
The Simtek doesn't use the MAF for it's air density nmeasuring duties. It uses the MAP (manifold absolute pressre sensor) instead.
This means you can literally get rid of the MAF (seeing as it's new, resell it on here to get cash back). If you want to keep the MAF (and why would you?) you can simply unplug it's electrical connector and the ECU can't 'see' it anyway.
But seeing as you'll need to get rid of the std airbox and 2nd resontaor when you get the FMIC, why not get rid on the MAF too? Then you'll have lovely unimpeded airflow direct from cone filter into air intake... and into turbo! Sorted.

Why is it too cheap?
That is coming form the far east.. if you can get it without the import duty then you'll be ok, but when you work out the legit price that's why they are dearer to buy from the UK (once the suppliers here have their profit)

Yeah, if MAF fails and it's not sussed in time, you can det your motor to death lol, due to it sending wrong signals to the ECU which may lead to serious underfuelling. That said though, the early pre-Sep.98 ones are quite robust, what with their wire sensor (just as well, as they're about £260 new!)
No, it's the later MY99/00 cassette type ones that are the buggers - their much more fragile film sensor fails a lot more regularly. So much so, that many owners of MY99/00 cars wisely treat it as a service item, changing it every year (or earlier) as a matter of course, for peace of mind.
But you don't need to worry about all that, as you're going MAF-free with your Simtek.
Fantastic feeling knowing you don't have that nagging feeling of MAF failure in the back of your mind
... Especially useful when concentrating on keeping Porsche Boxster S's, and their ilk, at bay lol.
