induction kit dilemma
hi all
I bought a powertec induction kit for my 98 classic but havent fitted it yet and I have read threads where induction kits maybe gained about 10bhp further up the rev range but they lost alot more low down - not to mention air fuel ratio problems.
Do induction kits perform as well as panel filters after a remap?
The car has a dastek piggy bank ecu, walboro, an aeromotive fpr so fueling can be adjusted and the ind kit would be fitted in conjunction with a td05 16g to replace the td04.
Would a td05 perform better with the panel or the induction kit?

Induction kits can either knacker the MAF or detrimentally alter the scaling of the MAF's voltage output to the ECU, causing motor to run dangerously lean in open loop driving i.e. high revs/load, which is a no no! I'd personally stick with an OEM paper filter or a decent panel e.g. Green, Apexi, K&N.
If you must have a IK, then you really should get it mapped for safety reasons. And I wouldn't expect any more than 2-5bhp from it when mapped... if at all!

Cheers mate
Thats kinda what i thought, theres already a green panel in there anyway.
Guess whats going on ebay!! I'll put the proceeds towards the TD05.
Im just a sucka for induction kits. Had one on my 309gti, clio 1.8 16v, cavalier sri.... even put one on a primera!! but none of them had turbos

They look/sound good for sure. But unless you completely shroud them with an insulating box and cold air feed, they're pointless IMHO... What you may gain in greater airflow, you immediately negate because it's exposed to the air density-killing hot underbonnet temps.!
