Default MAFF QUESTION

hi i am trying to eliminate a cold start problem some say maff some say coolant temp semsor some say air idel control valve ...

i have a 94 classic import saloon
irrattic idel from cold, revs start around 1500 rpm then start to go up and down car seems to almost be flooding. and when you rev it it clears again then builds up again. once car as reached normal temp it drives spot on ... i have a coolant temp sensor to fit .i know it is somwhere under the air resonater pipe but cannot see it where is it located exactly...?

im after your feed back as to what you think cause could be...
and if i check maff how do i know if its ok and would dirt affect it should i clean the probe inside maff ...?

and lastly whats the chance it could be air idel control valve is it a common thing to break thought it would be a long lasting part as it is electrical ...

advice please guys and your thoughts .....
one other thing car fires up first turn every time so dont think its plugs or coil packs ....??????? any help would be good ...

Coolant temp sensor is in the block so you do have to move a few hoses to see it properly.

Underneath the large hose that is underthe bend of the strut brace.

I had exactly the same symptoms you mention when when my temp sensor was playing up
