Default Quick query regarding standard MY97 Impreza exhaust...

Hey all,

Just a quick and boring question really!

Looking at the factory standard exhaust system fitted to my MY97 Impreza Turbo (UK car), the secondary 'cat' appears to actually be part of the centre pipe and not removable, is this so? it does have a lot of shielding fitted to it, but no bulges big enough to coneal a fitting flange.

Thankyou!

"Secondary" cat is removable if you take off the whole centre section and replace with a straight through. Otherwise no.

You sir, are a star!

Thankyou for that, definitely confirms what I was thinking.

So, the direct fit cat back stainless exhaust I bought from ebay is definitely not the right one for my car (it was listed as a cat back system to fit all 'Classic' WRX and STi models), it would fit, but I'd need to have a decat or maybe a custom sport cat to bridge the 18 inch gap between the end of the new system and the downpipe for it to even remotely qualify under that description.

Time to have a moan at the seller then

This "direct fit cat back stainless exhaust" sounds a bit doggy! There should be no bridging of gaps with an 18" sport cat.

The centre section is a fixed length, cat or no cat. The cat back should then bolt to the end of the centre section and complete the exhaust. Sounds like the cat back you bought is far too short.
