Default STI Engine swap 1999 to 1997

Hi hoping someone on here might be able to help,

I have two subarus STI (red top engine) one is 1999 which is heavily damaged and one is 1997 with a blown bottom end.
I am hoping to put the engine from the 1999 into the 1997 however I see that some of the wiring is different.

Do I swap all the wiring from the 1999 to the 1997 which looks to be quite a task (dash out ect) or do I swap over all the manifolds and cylinder heads to the good block which is also a bit of a task. Or is there a simpler sollution.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

John

I would do it the second way of your choices swap all standard bits onto good block keeping the wiring loom the same a lot easier and quicker , do you need to swop the heads or is it just the inlet manifold ?

The compression height of the pistons and combustion chamber volumes of the MY'99 are different to the MY'97 so you can run into Compression ratio problems fitting early heads onto a Phase 2 block.

Are the inlet and exhaust manifolds the same fitting or are they different too?

Are there other wiring issues that I may need to address on the block

Thanks for the replies guys

Staggered bolt pattern on the MY99 Inlet manifold ~ inline bolt pattern on the MY97.
Headers will swap over ok
