Red face sti thingy??? Help

Hi all! probaly a stupid question but rather be safe then sorry.
U know the red sti thing in the middle of the engine which looses its paint aint sure what its called but if you remove it is there any problams that might occure, cuz i got a coolant leak some where in the engine but need to take it off to try and find the problam but dont want to mess things up. also y its off was gonna re paint it any ideas whats the best stuff to use.

its the inlet manifold, its a big job for someone thats never done it before, there will be the wiring loom and quite a few pipes to get back on, it is a little tricky, but if your handy with a spanner it should only take an hour to take off, as for the paint i think its powder coated, it gets hot so what ever you paint it in it needs to with stand hi temps, good luck.

cheers mate thanx i took most of it apart today and only had 4 bolts to take off and some 1 talked me out of it till i found out abit about it lol. do u know is there gaskets on it?

the paint you need is VHT sp204 red wrinkle.

Gaskets are £6 each from subaru you need two.

I chickened out on doing mine myself and got API in Leamington to do it for me when i had my FMIC fitted....

To be fair to the OP, not everyone is into cars' engines/drivetrains enough to know what certain components are... Although it did seem weird for an Impreza owner - therefore, fair to assume a car enthusiast - not to know the name for one of the basic components for any engine lol.

Also, due to the flat-4's inherent configuration, it IS the weirdest, most unconventional-looking inlet manifold in the known universe . When I first saw it - and didn't really know about these motors - I too fleetingly thought WTF is that! Then, of course, you've got the exhaust manifold on the underside; which also looks like nothing you've ever seen... Further compounded by its 'unequalness'

lol i kinda new what it was but rather ask as if id said inlet manifold and it was some where else id be messing people about so thought id would be easier to act dumb!
