ECU
My head is all over the place.
My goal is for 330bhp.
Just not sure what to do with ECU, either ECUTEK but not sure if they can be mapped that high.
Apexi Power FC, as they seem to be recommended, but will it be the same as ECUTEKing my ECU?
Simtek, as these seem good for everything, but are they worth it if I'm not going any higher?

i would have thought any of the "big name" aftermarket ECUs would be fine. I would be very suprised if the ECUTEK can't reach 330bhp!! I think the limiting factor would be the mods you do or don't have, the ECU can then be setup optimise your fueling, boost, etc to allow them to be run safely and with maximum gains (if max gains is what your after)

Yes they can be mapped that high, and much higher but you will need to uprate your turbo, intercooler piping, possably your intercooler, a fuel pump may be advisable, injectors should be more than capable of 330

All mods are done, the only thing left is the turbo. Sweet, so two things needed then, turbo and remap. Jobs a goodun. Only taken me two years. But havent missed the money so a bonus in my eyes, thanks guys, might just stick with OE ECU then.

The end result power and drivability wise between Apexi and EcuTek on a 99/00 should be the same.. the difference is the EcuTek'd standard ecu retains the knock control and if you get bad fuel it will pull the timing, the Apexi will flash the engine light.. some people like to monitor stuff and so the Apexi Commander is great.. some people prefer to just get in and drive and let the ecu sort it out.
The reasons I have been asked to and therefore installed SimTeks on a relatively low power setup 99/00 cars is either they wanted Antilag and/or launch control.. or they kept blowing maf sensors.. not all 99/00 blow maf sensors regular.. some do.. the other advantages being two maps and the ignition advance is defined in smaller increments which does make it slightly smoother along with the smaller increments in the fueling table and it is possible to gain a small amount more power.
Buy a new maf.. reset the ecu on the current maf.. if it drives ok then and idles fine then you know the current one is okay.. you then have a spare new one.. and can swap or reset ecu every service time to check.
This is perhaps where the Apexi has an advantage in that you can see the maf voltage.. if you know what it should be and monitor it you can detect a failing maf sensor..
I feel I have now waffled lots and not really helped... sorry

Simon, just to make sure my MAF's working fine...
Under 'AirFlow' in 'Monitor', when at idle on a warmed up engine, it reads about 1080-1100mV. When at high revs/load/WOT it reads getting on for 5000mV.
I'm sure this is the correct "to-from" MAF scale - can you confirm this though?
Car runs very smoothly by the way: no hesitation, flat spots, lumpiness etc. (that'll be your mapping then )

I have had no problems with the MAF on mine at all, idles spot on, doesnt move, and very smooth. I have had a fault come up once, done an ECU reset and was the o2 sensor. so changed that, everything is fine.
Can't wait to get my turbo and get it mapped.
