Default 2001 bug eye running/overheating probs

hi all, ive just bought a 2001 bugeye wrx and it has a couple of problems! it wasnt running right when i bought it, jerky and lacking power low down, ive since fitted an induction kit and a dump valve but no change, if anything its worse! it now wont run with the airflow senser plugged in, it does drive with it unplugged but it is obviously erratic. i have tried a replacement but no change. also the car is getting hot after a run when at a standstill or moving slowly and raising the revs over 3000 rpm makes the needle drop instantly, could this be an airlock?

The induction kit is causing turbulence which sends the MAF haywire, I have this problem annually (MOT) I would guess that when you run with the MAF disconnected the fuelling is VERY lean hence the overheating. More importantly you could be having a lot of detonation which is a killer for the engine. Put the standard airbox back but with a decent panel filter. Then try bleeding the coolant system.
