Hi all,this has only just started happening.When i turn on my air to warm the car up its pumps petrol fumes through!!!!It isnt just a little either it bleeding stinks!!!Does anyone have any idea what this could be????Dont seem to be losing fuel etc

 

If it's a classic then you could check all the fuel evap/emissions pipes going to & from the black charcoal canister, located driver's side front by the ABS. Could just be a hose split or slipped off.

 

There was an old dealer bulletin for newage cars where rubber fuel lines around the inlet manifold were contracting and allowing petrol vapour to be lost at joints.
Tends to happen in very cold weather....
Best see your dealer about it.

ive the same issues started on sat car stinks of fuel with no obvious leeks my01 78k

 

Just changed mine at the weekend 2002 sti the rubber hoses under the inlet manifold joining the fuel pipes leaks , you have to take inlet manifold off to get at them no other way to do it , you will need new inlet manifold gaskets and some 8mm fuel injection hose from your loacal auto factors about £3 for a 2 metre length . The rubber hoses start to go ridgid with heat off engine and then pass fuel when cold . Two hoses on left side just under inlet to turbo pipe and one on the right side and one more on the very left by fuel rail .Takes about 2 hrs to remove intercooler and inlet manifold , alternator comes off to the side gives access to plugs and undo power steering supply pipe and move to one side . 2 hrs to remove old manifold gasket remnents and change 4 pipeces of old hose and 2 hrs to put all back together again .

I kept turning ignition on to prime fuel system and shon a torch under inlet pipe and could just see fuel dripping off rubber pipe took a while to see after several primes at first i could only smell it . Time consuming job .

Although out of the 3 year warranty, isn't this problem down to IM/dealers to mend at their expense? It is a potential fire risk after all?

Nope, but they'll sell you modified metal and rubber/plastic hoses to stop the problem.

I had the same thing on my Bugeye WRX, tightened the **** out of the connections and it went way.

 

I had this on mine after installing the injectors, turned out to be a faulty seal on one of the injectors

 

help needed guys tryed to take my inlet off today everything is off lifted the manifold up stuck on the metal fuel lines and body know what these are attached to under the manifold

 

I thought it was just caused by following crappy cars! Hmm!

 

Definitely an issue on 01 New age cars and requires a fuel rail mod as per above. I recall the parts were about £80-90 and manifold needs to come off to carry out the mod. It resolves the problem though

The air hose from the front to back of the manifold has to come off with it or else you can't lift the manifold off. See the black hose in my piccy.

 

i had the same problem couldnt solve it, it was ongoing for a since i had major work carried out.

 

Which bolts have you undone you have to undo the four long bolts which hold the inlet manifold and the injector blocks to the main engine block , you can't undo the other smaller bolts which bolt the inlet manifold to the injector blocks as it will not lift off , if you look at the pic above you will see that everything lift off together , it does catch on the water coolant pipe which goes from the header tank down through the inlet manifold on the left side into the block .

The new metal pipes are 17544AA134 (I think it's been superceeded now though but the dealer will know for sure).
The new fuel hose is part number 807707140 but you're better off just buying some fuel hose and cutting it to length as Subaru charge you an arm and a leg for what it in effect a tiny length of fuel hose.

Hi guys, just had this on my 04. There are a few good threads on NASIOC.com about it. Although the solution is posted above.

 

May sound dumb but. After a remap smelt fuel though vents and when i got out the car.
Never thought nothing of it, as i though mapped for more fuel to be safe, anyways a few weeks after i was reading some post about dump valve been a waste of time and useing more fuel, running rough and so on. So put the standard 1 back on, car run much more smooth and felt alot better. And smell of fuel went a day after.
So if you have a dump valve try changing to standard, just my thought.

 

I know it's an old thread , but just to let you all know I have the same issuse and I primed the pump 4 times had a look at the manifold and can see a small pool of petrol. So just have to order the gasket and I'll get that changed. I wonder could I upgrade my injectors at the same time with out remapping it?
