what level are you tuning the car to?
you will lose the burble a bit with after market un-equal headers.
equal length will be better for performance but will totaly lose the burble.
...car will need to be mapped to get any real gain out of them.

im not gonna tune the car highly just wondered if it was a modifaction worth doing im very surprised you lose the burble with the unequal headers i thought it would increase the burble. how about the uppipe?

its all swings and roundabouts mate - you need to decide what you want out of the car and go from there.
as with up-pipe, bigger diameter will flow better for more top end power but turbo will spool later and lose torque low down.
use search facility as they have all been discussed in the past several times over.

Well i've got equal length and stainless uppipe and not losted the burble?!? If anything its LOUDER!
Its a good mod if not just for the turbo pressure but the OEM headers are SOOO heavy (careful when fitting)
Really easy to fit, biggest problem is getting the heat shields off but after that 6 x 14mm nuts on block and 2x 14mm nut&bolt on the upipe!!

equal length and still burbling??? (what make are the headers)
....its the un-equalness that gives it the noise.
for mildy modded scoobs I'd say the best option is porting the std headers and up pipe.
....did a full job on mine years ago and it did make a noticable difference!....torque come in a lot earlier too.
the only downside was that I did lose a 'bit' of my burble.
