Default rear wash wipe non return valve

Rear wash on my MY00 UK wagon died, took it apart and discovered there is a non return valve in line in the pipe.

It appears to be corroded and stuffed.

Question is, do I need another non return valve or can I just use a straight through connector?

I cant see the point of the valve and its so far from the pump that the loss of pressure plus the corroded spring appears to be the issue.
