Default WR1 Vs 340bhp WRX

How would a remapped WRX with a VF30 do against a WR1 in a straight line?

I'm having my WRX mapped in January with a VF30 on it and supporting mods, hoping for around 340bhp but I was in my mates WR1 on Friday and it pulls like a train in every gear!!

I know the 6spd 'box will make a difference but I couldnt believe it got the power down.
I used to have a 320bhp classic with a vf28 and it went well but I dont think it was as feroceous as the WR1.
I've read up on the differences between the VF28, VF30 and the VF35 and it seems the VF30 and 35 are roughly the same turbo.

I know the cams are different but can I hope to see the same sort of pull (albeit a bit less) from my remapped WRX with a VF30 than a WR1?
Also, my WRX is standard. How is it going to like a power hike of over 100bhp in one go?
I'm expecting the clutch to go immediately..........

the weakest links in the system is the clutch and gearbox, if you take it easy on them they will last a bit longer.

What are your cars like compared to a WR1? Have you ever been in/come up against one?

to be honest i have never come up against a wr1 but with the vf34 the car starts to pull at 3500 rpm and doesnt stop till 7000, it feels like a completely different car compared to when i had the td04 turbo on, i wouldnt hold my breath to much tho against a wr1 as its a 6 speed , but i could be wrong, i will be interested to hear if anyone else has come up against one

I challanged a couple of P1's when I had my classic with the VF28 and there was nothing in it but I expect the WR1 is a different animal however with a VF30, Brembos and suspension, I'd like to be able to give him a scare...........

has your wrx got the dccd control,if not then when it gets the the twisty stuff the wr1 will come out first..straight line i think the wr1 will have the jump.

A 340bhp wrx will beat a WR1 in a straight line, simply down to the fact that the wrx is quite a bit lighter. WR1 having better brakes and suspension will have the edge through the corners, if the drivers are of equal talent.

Not sure if the WRX has AVCS, makes a difference to low down torque and drivability.

I would think a 340 bhp classic wrx would out run a 320 bhp WR1 (IIRC that's what they are??) down to the fact they are quite a bit lighter than the WR1.

I run a 330bhp P1 which I would expect to just edge out a standard WR1, thing is with these kinds of cars- you never really know for sure what power they are carrying! Lol.

My 320bhp classic didnt feel as quick as the WR1 but I think that could be due to the fact I wasnt driving it.
I feel that when you drive, you kind of brace yourself for the boost coming in but when your a passenger, you just sit there as when I sat in my mates mapped bugeye, it felt quick but when I drove it it felt gutless.

A well modded, genuine 340bhp WRX will easily pull away from a std WR1.

I have against an RB320, which I'd think to be a bit quicker than the WR1..?

As said, there's nearly 100kgs of extra weight in the STI/WR1/RB320 compared to a WRX. The heavier cars need about another 30-40bhp to have similar perfomance. The 6sp box has nothing to do with it, in fact the extra gear changes will have a negative effect..

Throw in some decent brakes and a few choice suspension mods and a 340ish WRX will be more than a match for most scoobs the poor side of 400bhp..!

Indeed you should be onto a winner with the lighter classic and i know exactly what you mean about bracing for the boost.

Just be careful of some of thos WR1's which are running silly amounts of power and look standard as they certainly are no slouch.

Lol, he has a newage wrx..!

Even so, a well setup newage wrx makes a great fast road car.

Yep, there will always be some cars that are running huge power, lol they'd need to be to have any real advantage..

I'm at 347bhp with the standard clutch and no prblems, been at this power since august. Keep the launches to a minimum and you'll be fine. In fact I regualry light up all four wheels coming out of roundabouts and no slip yet

I would def say a 340 wrx would beet the WR1 and a classic will beet them both.
YouTube - Misubishi Evo 8 mr fq320 vs Subaru impreza Sti wrx wr1

Think the WR1's downfall is the almost 1500kgs of lard

Finally the internet connection is up and running now and i can put phone browsing to a side,,,,,,damn that things slow

Cheers for that wiley - i didn;t actually look at the profile page as that wud have been another 20 mins lol....

Wiley he will possibley need more than just raw power too - a decent handling package will surely go down a treat i must say.

I agree some of them are greedy gits and want all the advantages on the road.

Just wanted to add, majority of scoob owners will do basic mods regardless, as bolt on mods are becoming more and more widely available, therefore i am pretty sure it's very rare we find a standard scoob these days

Anybody on this thread with a bog standard scoob

I would say there's plenty of them.

I personally think it would be very difficult to find a standard scoob (any age) full stop. lol

Let's run a competition!

Is there anyone out there that can truthfully declare that they have a total stock Scoob i.e. exactly as it came out of the factory, with NO mods whatsoever; not one thing changed at all! Not even side repeaters or radio, for example.

Whoever declares first wins a great prize!...

Thanks for all the replies.

Once its mapped and has a new clutch, I'll be concentrating on Brembos and handling mods.
