SimTek launch control is operated by a number of methods, the main basis is a fuel cut to reduce the rev limit to a definable level.
You can also introduce ign retard should you wish to get really good boost at launch.
The amount of boost and the rpm for launch is highly dependant on the surface and grip levels.

Certainly more heat caused with the retard in, thats why the SimTek also has an ignition retard time out function should you sit ready to launch for too long.
