Turbo 2000 96' 'Turbo change'
Yesterday i picked up my Subaru which id bought very pleased with it.
I'm looking at getting the turbo changed already
At the moment it has a TD04
Am i able to upgrade to a TD05 easily enough and is it worth the hassle of changing it?
ta.

Hi danny, welcome to SN
Yes, straight swap-over (it still has the upturned, top-entry 'snorkel' for the std air intake pipe too!). The TD05 is obviously capable of flowing more air, so if you don't get a remap, you run the risk of dangerously leaning out the A/F mixture. If you intend to fit one, then it'd be worthwhile getting a decat downpipe, less restrictive exhaust (if you haven't already), decent panel filter and a Walbro 255lph fuel pump before the remap.
These mods should be good for c.270-290bhp and the '5' will pull hard to the redline, unlike the TD04.
NOTE: For a remap, you need to get an aftermarket ECU such as a Apexi Power FC, or if your car is a MY96 (built between Sep 95 to Aug 96), you can get the ESL Live daughterboard instead (slightly cheaper than PFC). See here for all your ECU/mapping options: www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk
