If it is still original, then VF29 from IHI and standard power is 280 hp.

Rarely more than 330 - usually anywhere from 320 to 330. The best we got was 343 and never did find out why - just a good one is the best bet.

Call if I can help.

320-330bhp aint to bad, at least im not pushing the standard engine or gearbox, all I want is a nice drivable everyday car, which it is at the moment, I only want to add a Front mount intercooler mostly for Looks more then performance!!!!.

I was thinking of getting it mapped next which would be needed if I get a Front mount, but the previous owner didnt know what mods where done to the car, It has a full decat and a filter which I worked out myself!!! but it feels much quicker then my brothers STi 4 wich has the same mods but without the decat downpipe, So I was thinking if it has had a remap in the past that im unaware of, Is there anyway of finding out if it has had a remap, without spending lots of money on another remap!!!!!

If it has been remapped with Ecutek which is a software reflash, then whoever ' plugs in to it ' will see a licence installed. Then a remap will cost less than starting from scratch as you save the cost of the licence, £125.00 or £150.00 depending upon who you talk to....

If it has an aftermarket ECU fitted you will see the label on the case when you take up the cover over it, which is under the passsenger side front carpet a ten mm spanner will get you in there.

Depending upon which ecu is fitted A'pexi or whatever will decide if it can be remapped in the uk. Some, like Zero sports, Mines, Prova, HKS F Con Pro etc., etc., can be tricky to get remapped especially as mapping a Subaru is not straightforward. Just 'cos someone has mapped 10 million 300Z's on F Con Pro doesn't mean he'll have a clue about mapping a Subaru.....

If your brothers '4' has a cat fitted that'll be why they feel different to drive.

If you want a chat about it, call me on Monday

TD05 / 16g is the ' snorkel ' type turbo fitted on early [ up to 96 WRX's ] TD05 / 18G is a front entry conversion of the base model 16G but using a BIGGER, size 18, exhaust shroud.

Yep, Owned 3 Evo's over the years(Evo 7 GSR, Evo 6 GSR and a Evo 6 RSX) all where modified, and apart from the Evo 6 RSX they have all been crap(Very boring to drive), I dont think ill be buying another one!!! Icing on the cake was my brothers standard STi 4(at the time) could pull 3 car lenghths on my 325bhp Evo 6 GSR, That made my mind up that I wanted a classic STi, and im glad I did!!!!!!

Dont get me wrong the STi 6 dont get as many looks as the Evo as there more common, but It drives and handles just how I want a car to be even in standard-ish form!!!!

Scoobyboy,

So your 325bhp Evo got slated that much by your brothers standard STI 4?? that amazes me, in the sense by the distance, 3 car lengths is alot for a supposedly 280bhp car...

hows it going staffi, maybe 1.5 car lengths then. but it did pull on me, the evo 6 gsr is question was Rich W old silver 6 gsr that i owned for a few months. it was rolling roaded at 325bhp 290lb/ft. I was supprised how my brothers sti 4 pulled, but it was from a 30mph rolling start, and the standard turbo on the sti 4 would be on full boost before my evo 6 was, which i found very laggy.

best Evo i owned was pockets old evo 6 rsx, that was a beast. loved that car.

I,m good mate thanks, Lees car was lovley yes, just that Redish/Pinkisk interior that put me off, lol.

Must admit though, the V3 i have now is one of, if not the nicest, quickest cars i,ve had and they feel SO raw to drive, very impressed i am and you know how many good cars i,ve had so it,s a BOLD statement to make, BUT true, just wish i,d of found this before o chucked £££££££ into about 20 cars..

I remember me Lee, Justin aka Hippy coming back from a meet one night and we all had our Anti-lag on, great site that was....

spoke to you on the phone before when you phoned me about my focus rs when i had it for sale. Yeah ive spent some money on cars over the years too, the sti 6 i got now is the cheapest car ive bought but I tell you what it feels rapid, like you say, there something about classic sti's that makes them feel raw.

There not everyones cup of tea, and im sure everyone on the MLR would laugh if you pulled upto a Evo meet in a classic shape scoob, but Ive bought the Scoob because I like the way it drives and handles, it might not look as nice as the Evo, but i prefer it and thats what matters!!!!!

John,

Who gives a **** what the MLR lot think?? they,re a great car imo, the one i have now did a 12sec quarter @110mph @ Scooby live, it would take a 400bhp Evo to do that imo..

Just have to watch the boxes on the classics as you know, but if mine dies then it,ll be a PPG anyway.
