Funnily enough there's just happens to be a similar thread going at the mo...

https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...otest-car.html

I'll quote here my suggestion (also appears in that above thread)...

"My choice would be the MY97/98 Version 3/4 lightweight Type RA (or Type RA STi) versions. They have the max amount of power allowed when left Japan (276bhp) and, moreover, have the best power/weight of 237bhp/ton (kerb weight of only 1180kg).

Not only do they offer the best power/weight out of the box, they also have the in-car electronically adjustable DCCD centre diff for a significantly more rear-driven steed - ideal for competion use."

Also, try the search facility - it might crop up some other suggestions from old threads, etc.

Oh and welcome to SN fella, lol.

As above, best STI RA you can afford. V3 will make things easier (4 pots, injectors, intercooler etc)

I doubt you will get a good v3 STi for 3k, actually I doubt you will get any decent STi RA for that, but you should be able to pick up a wrx or a uk turbo in good condtion for that price

If it's track use only, a slightly battered but mech sound v1/v2 is realistic.
