Default RGM K&N & SAMCO

Right taking my p1 to the 400bhp mark and have a quick question

i will be running a fmic so will need an induction kit and will be getting a K&N, i have a quick question i was looking to get the Roger Clark Motor large version but before i do i was just wanting to know, is it that much better than the standard k&n.

the RGM is £150 and the standard £75 is it worth spending the extra money and what makes it better?

and the other thing is shoul di replace the standard airbox hose with a SAMCO pipe? what gians will i get and is it worth doing or is the standard subaru hose good enough?

any pointers would be great

steve

yeah i have a list of mods under way dan, headers, injectors, fmic etc etc

just wanted to know about the above.

spoke to a couple of mappers and a few tunners and they say it should be ok, but if it goes i will go for a 2.5 bottom end or forge build, and if it does not go then happy days for me, will be a few grand better off. the mapper in question has done a few P1 with the spec i am looking at and they are still running (at the min)

just if there is no point in using the RCM kit or the Samco for 400bhp, then i have an extra £120 or so to spend on other bits like having the headers ceramic coated.

i am not trying to be tight woth money but to use what i have to my best advantage and spend wisely as i have money but not stupid ammounts tp waste on things that are not benifical if that makes sense

regards

I have the big RCM/ K&N induction kit on my P1, but it's hard to answer your question as I haven't tried it with the smaller kit.

Logic says that the more air you can get in then the easier it will be to get to your target, so that dictates as big as poss.

Mines runs 400+ if that helps in any way

I would say go for it as when (probably rather than if) you go for the forged/2.5 build £120 will seem like nothing, plus you'll need it for that stage anyway.

Aside frrm the upgrades you've mentioned so far - I very much doubt you'll hit your target on your current exhaust set up either, you'll need a freeflowing 3" IMHO.

Not necessarily... Mine put out 391bhp (admittedly on a deltadash) with a decat 2.5 exhaust (prodrive backbox and centre silencer also in place) using a 20g, so if he's using a bigger turbo 400 should definitely be possible (IMO)

fat biy you have a valid point re the filter at a later date, as for the exhaust, i like the setup as is, it is not too loud unlike teh 3" systems i have run on my other imprezas plus the P1 logo on th eback looks coll imo. i have spoke with bob and he has said that the exhaust may hinder the top end figures due to the gas flow but not that much and will make no differenc eot the mid range which is were i like to sit anyway plus to shed out another £300+ pound on an exhaust sytem seems a waste of money to me. 400bhp is a target but not a must have figure anywhere close will be fine if that makes sense
