Default Help / Advise on first time fitting tubular manifold

on saturday gona fit it, but have a few questions on whats going to be the best / easiest way to do it as never done it before. anyone who knows the routine please comment would be most welcome.

car is a 1995 wrx import. recently got some car ramps, so ill put it on the ramps, but only real issues i think is gona be the up pipe.

to take old manifold off, just remove heatshileds and unbolt i guess, but access to the up pipe, how do you remove / fit a new one?

the tubular manifold i have has a flexi section then uppipe.

Are the bolts likely to all be rusted and cause problems?

any advice / tips most welcomed

cheers

if the up pipe is part of the manifold your going to have fun. some up pipes are bolted on (more expensive)

my mate had to jack up one side of his engine to fit it in place. eg remove engine mount.

The headers I've seen with flexi-joints are notorious for failing...

luckily they are two seperate bit, although i havnt got the bolts to fit them together. will just some bolts and washers ive got lying around be ok to use?

and where abouts do they fail? on the joint itself?

and when it joins to the block, would you just re-use the bolts on there now, and same with fitting the uppipe to turbo? ive got a tube of firegum, so will whack plenty of that on seals too

I done this recently, make sure you soak all the bolts in wd40 for a day or two, you may have to grind some metal away from the subframe to allow the headers to fit!

Down pipe also has to come off to access the bolts for the up pipe turbo end.
You'll have fun removing the uppipe from below if the heat shield is still on, it wont fit through the gap! I used an air saw to get a bit of the heat sheild off then it just fell out.
Get a good six sided socket for them bolts, they can be tough.

got one of the up pipe bolts off, jesus! the other two you can get from above i cant get, one of them is a bit rounded, but when i get a long 13mm socket, ill smack it on, and reckon it'll come off.

but the last one on top the one furthest away.. not sure how im gona get this one off... ?

and yea the heatshields are still on, was gona get the angle grinder / drill out and just literally get the existing one off by any means.

just stuck with these damn nuts at mo. need to use car tonight, so just stuck it all back together, gona have to give it anonother go...

my manifold is same as the above, wondered if it would mate up with part of the existing uppipe, ir anyone knows if they are similar? was just a thought if anyone knows?

yes 6 point sockets are the way to go.

that manifold looks equal length headers which will loose your subaru note. could be wrong but it looks it in the picture

yea it is equal length..

but at the moment, i have a 95 JDM wrx and where there are so many baffles in the 3" exhaust i cant really hear the engine anyway.

im gona get a different exhaust for it.. and will try these headers for a bit.. got the posted for £80.. unless i find someone looknig to swap? ?
