Noisy Gearbox - Advice needed
Hi all,
I have a 94 WRX. Recently the car went in for some work to the gearbox to fix an issue with a bolt on the mainshaft being loose and preventing me from selecting 5th gear.
The work was done and afterwards 5th gear was selectable but noisy...kinda like a straight-cut noise. It gets very loud the faster you go.
Since the work I have also noticed that I get a strange rubbing noise when selecting 3rd, 4th and 5th...not a crunch, but like the noise you get from a circle saw when you cut metal is the only way I can decscribe it!!
The noise has gradually gotten worse and now when I slow down and coast with 2nd selected I can hear a knock which seems to slow down with the car.
Out of gear when still there is no noise.
Anyone have any idea what could of happened here? Am I potentially looking at a replacement box? I hope not as the cost of a replacement box fitted is more than the car is worth!!!
All advice is most welcome.
Thanks,
